The name of this park means “country home”. Such a country home was converted into a hunting lodge for Philipp II, during the middle of the 16th century at the Western outskirts of the city.

Since 1931 the former Royal hunting ground is accessible for the general public. The whole area comprises 17 square kilometres, and is known as the green lung of Madrid. A pine forest dominates the park.

The laying out of the park includes also a zoo, which enjoys an excellent reputation. Many Madrilenians use Casa de Campo for their pleasure trip on Sundays.

There is also a cable car which offers a wonderful view over the whole park.

El Capricho de la Alameda de Osuna is a park in the east of the city, in typical French style. It was the idea of duchess from Osuna at the end of the 18th century, to create such a wonderful pleasure ground.

El Capricho de la Alameda de Osuna is a park of peace and silence without dogs, cyclists, and noising humans.

The park is only opened on weekends and public holidays. Especially just married couples like to make their wedding photos there.

Metro 5: El Capricho

It’s not easy to attain the park of Campo del Moro, which is located close to the kings palace in the district of Madrid De Los Austrias / La Latina. It’s a bit hard to get there.

This is the main reason that this park exists almost without any visitors. A good opportunity to benefit from such an occurrence, if someone enjoys silent and empty parks. Campo del Moro can be visited by going down from the kings palace along the “Cuesta de San Vicente”.

Besides the silent character of the park, Campo del Moro offers one more attraction. It’s the fountain called “Fuente de las Conchas”. The sculptures of the fountain are quite interesting to look at. Three children made of stone sitting on the edge of the fountain with conches in their yaps, and one children character on the top hugging a dolphin.

Metro 6 and 10: Principe Pio

Retiro is a lovely park in the center of the city, directly next to the back of Madrids world famous museum which is known as “Prado”.

The park invites to a languorous walk with melancholic thoughts on the mind. Retiro is a perfect place to sit down, close the eyes, and drift away.

There is even a scary monument of the devil in the Southern part of Retiro. Also a felicitous sculpture of Alfons XII on his horse, and two free museums of contemporary art increase the local value of Retiro park considerably.

This special kind of park offers many possible uses for the people of Madrid: oasis of silence and peace, children’s playground, dance floor, picnic spot and walking paradise.

Retiro was created in the 17th century for the kings of Madrid. Since 1868 the park is open for anyone.
