The constitutor of this museum was the second-born son of the founder of Germans famous steel empire. He was not very interested in steel, and so he married an Hungarian baroness and started to collect artworks. Their son Hans-Heinrich, who lived from 1921 to 2002, continued their work. He collected favoured German expressionists. When he died he left 1.500 collected artworks.
800 of them are part of the Madrid Museum called “Thyssen Bornemisza” in the palace “Palacio Villahermosa”. The museum exists since 1992. In 2004 the building was expanded, and 220 more artworks found space in the exhibition.
