Sol Huertas Madrid

Category: Madrid Districts – admin – 12:04 pm

Puerta del Sol is the heart and center of Madrid and its road network. The square is the end and the starting point of many shopping streets, and located quite close to the impressing Plaza de Mayor.

Huertas is the famous nightlife district of Madrid, and can be found in the South Eastern direction from Puerta del Sol. “Plaza Santa Ana” is the first destination for the eager Huerta visitors. The place is surrounded by cosy bars, pubs, and little restaurants. One of the most famous attractions of “Plaza Santa Ana” is the “Cerveceria Alemana”, which exists since 1904. Cerveceria Alemana was founded by a bunch of German guys.

The square was remodeled in 2003. Cars are allowed to pass by, but parking is only allowed in the new underground carpark.

On the Western part of Plaza Santa Ana stands an interesting sculpture of the bullfighter and matador “Pedro Calderon de la Barca”. The sculpture is located directly infront of a former traditonal hotel for the bullfighters. The Spanish Theatre “Teatro Espanol” can be found in the opposite of Pedro Calderon de la Barcas monument.

The district of Huertas has even a second name. Some inhabitants call this lovely piece of Madrid also “Barrio de las Letras”. Barrio de las Letras means “District of words” in the English language, and this reveals the past of the place as home for poets and writers since the 17th century. Some of their quotes can be found in the pavement of the pedestrian zone called “Calle de las Huertas”.

Huertas is located very close to the one of the worlds most famous and greatest museum called “Prado”.
